How Onepiecedle Works
This page documents the rules behind the daily games so that players can understand what the feedback means, when the puzzle changes, and what information leaves their browser.
Daily answer selection
Classic and Laugh each create a deterministic seed from the current UTC date and the game mode. That seed selects one entry from the relevant character dataset. Because the selection is deterministic, every player receives the same answer for that mode on the same UTC day. A new challenge begins at 00:00 UTC.
The two modes use separate seeds, so the Classic answer does not determine the Laugh answer. Yesterday's answer is shown only after the day has changed.
How Classic feedback is evaluated
Each guess is compared field by field with the daily answer. An exact match is displayed in green. A partial match is displayed where the dataset contains an overlapping multi-value attribute. A non-match is displayed in gray. Numeric fields such as bounty and height include an arrow showing whether the answer's value is higher or lower than the guessed value.
The comparison fields are clues, not claims that a character can be reduced to a single permanent profile. Affiliations, bounties, powers, and other details may change during the story. If a value appears ambiguous, the game uses the value in its maintained dataset for that day.
Laugh mode
Laugh mode pairs a daily audio clue with a character entry. Guesses are checked against the selected character, and the game provides visual feedback as the player narrows the answer. Audio availability can vary by browser or device; a failed audio request should not be treated as a wrong guess.
2048 mode
The 2048 mode follows the familiar 4×4 sliding-tile rules. A move shifts every tile in one direction, and two tiles at the same level merge once during that move. A new low-level tile is then added to an empty cell. Keeping the highest tile in one corner and avoiding moves that break the ordered edge are useful strategies, but the random new tile means no two runs are identical.
Progress and aggregate counts
Game progress is saved in browser storage so that reloading the page does not erase the current daily attempt. When a player solves Classic or Laugh, the browser sends a randomly generated anonymous identifier to the server. The identifier is used to avoid counting the same browser twice for that mode and day. Both the identifier set and aggregate count expire from the statistics store after three days. No player account is created.
More detail is available in the privacy policy. Aggregate counts are retained briefly for deduplication and operational review; they are not presented as public audience measurements.
Dataset review and reporting
The game dataset is maintained for clue comparison. It is not intended to replace official reference works. Reports are reviewed for the specific field, language, and story context involved.
